I am choosing to focus on the chinese culture. I chose to focus on this culture because I love chinese food. I already know that the chinese eat a variety of different foods: spicy, sweet, etc. I also already know that the chinese eat with chopsticks instead of forks and knives. I hope to find out why they eat with chopsticks and how the flavor of chinese food came to be. I also hope to learn about more unique chinese food that isn’t as common. Unlike most world cuisines, the soup is the last part of the meal and comes after the entree. In most cultures, the soup comes before the entree and serves as an appetizer. Ice cream is believed to have originated in China, because an emperor favored this dessert. The history and geography have a heavy influence on the chinese cuisine. China is the fourth largest country in the world, but it’s the largest based on population. Chinese civilization started over 5,000 years ago and still makes an impact on the rest of the world today. The south of China is wet and tropical, and the north- west is dry and full of desert. Regions with warmer climates tend to eat more spicy foods because the foods raise the body temperature and cause people to sweat. Sweating has the effect of causing the body to cool, making the warm temperatures more bearable. Therefore, the culture has a variety of foods based on the geography and history of China. The large population contributes to the popularity of chinese food.
