Blog Post #1
I am focusing on the Japanese food culture. This may sound
cliché but I always have loved Japanese food and found it interesting. I want
to learn more about the culture through this project. I don’t know much but I
know that rice is pretty much a stable food in every meal that they have. I
want to learn about how they first started to make sushi and how that has grown
into such a huge thing around the world. Some facts I learned about Japanese
food is that rice is such a common food in the country that most people even
eat it for breakfast too! Also it is much more common for a family to have a
rice cooker in their house instead of an oven. Something that is unusual that
Japanese people eat is both horse and whale meat! They eat all types of
interesting seafood too like squid, jellyfish and octopus. Most people don’t
know this but Japan is actually made up of 6,582 islands! Since Japan is so
close to the ocean, that’s where the country got their like and use of seafood.
The four largest islands are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyusha, and Shikoku, which
make up about ninety-seven percent of Japan's land area. About 73 percent of
Japan is forested, mountainous and unsuitable for agricultural, industrial or
residential use. But still Japan is the world’s ten largest population with 127
million. Japanese food is based on taking a staple food, like rice or noodles,
and adding dishes made from fish or vegetable to add flavor.
