I chose to research Italian food because I grew up with my great-grandmother coming directly over from Italy with my grandfather. My great grandma Nona, that's what we used to call her, otherwise known as yole Bagatti used to cook for my brother and I every Sunday. It was second nature to me since I was little, we would go over every Sunday afternoon and we would walk in the house and there would just be a huge table of Italian food all prepared by hand and recipes my great grand mother had memorized. I have a common knowledge of Italian food and the culture but I'm very glad I have the opportunity to study in depth about a heritage I take pride in.
Italian culture is steeped in the arts, family, architecture, music and food. Italy is Home of the Roman Empire and a major center of the Renaissance. This Diverse little country has 20 regions that produces its unique food. A wealthy region located in northern Italy, Emilia-Romagna is rich in meats and super-eggy pasta. The craft of curing meat is held in high esteem here. Another well known region is Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It’s located just off the "toe" of the boot that is mainland Italy. Sicily is well known for meats such as lamb, pork, veal, and rabbit. Its locals also claim they invented the meatball, called polpetti. This little island is also home to Mount Etna giving the land rich volcanic soil, allowing for abundance of lemons, blood oranges, almonds, olives, and other fruit.
