Sausage is one of the first things people think about when
it comes to German food. While bratwurst is the main type people know about,
there are actually four different categories of sausages, which are. Rohwurst
(Fresh/raw wurst ) which instead of being cooked is dried out and has a very
long shelf life. These wursts are very firm and are commonly eaten as a snack.
The second type is Kochwurst(cooked wurst) there are over 350 types. Unlike Rohwurst
Kochwurst is made from cooked meat usually combined with bread before being
stuffed in addition they are smoked. Then there’s Brühwurst (boiled wurst) with
over 800 types this sausage is made of ground up beef or chicken and is scalded
to create a crispy texture. Then finally we have bratwurst, which differs, by
region. Not only are there countless types of sausages, but also there are
countless ways of eating them. While some are simply eaten alone people will
often pair sausages with sides such as potato salad, bread, and Sauerkraut;
which is pickled cabbage (which makes sense because the name translates to sour
cabbage). One of the cool things about sausage is it can also be used as an
ingredient and not just a snack food. Some of the dishes that include sausage
are various types of soups, stews and casseroles. Not only is this dish popular
for its many varieties, but also because it is a hardy food that helps people
maintain their strength throughout the day. Because of Germanys geography it is
an ideal food to be raised and harvested.
I had no idea that there are 800 different types of sausges. That is such a great fact, thank you for including that in this post. I also never knew that you could use it in so many differnet foods. I loved learning all these new facts from your blog posts.
