Traditionally English foods are not necessarily healthy, but not necessarily unhealthy either.  Traditional English meals include vegetables, potatoes, meat, and dessert, similar to many American meals.  However, unlike a lot of American meals, English foods are not traditionally fried, making them much healthier by comparison.  The English, more often then not, roast their meats and vegetables and enjoy their health because of it. The only really unhealthy English foods are the desserts, such as their various puddings, and their very few fried foods like fish and chips.  Some people opt for a healthier version of fish and chips by baking them.

I believe that English diets are moving in the opposite direction as American diets.  While American diets have been unhealthy for the longest time, they are starting to trend more towards the healthier side of the spectrum.  English diets however, have slowly been changing in an unhealthy way.  For a time, the English have resisted the American, fast food, diet, but slowly and slowly, fast food and unhealthy diets have been growing due the minimal effort it requires to get it.  This has not had any drastic effects on the obesity rate of the English, but it this trend continues, it might.
