Food is so closely intertwined into American Indian Culture. Many holidays, ceremonies, and rituals require the use of food. A wide variety of Southwestern tribes practice peyote ceremonies. A peyote ceremony involves the consumption a tea made from peyote buttons. Peyote buttons are the dried fruits of small cacti plants. Peyote ceremonies are held for various different occasions. These occasions include, but are not limited to, funerals, healings, and baptisms. Peyotes tend to cause psychedelic hallucinations; therefore they are used sparingly.

Just like the American Indian diet you chose to study, the Chinese diet that I studied also has many holidays and ceremonies that require the use of food. A peyote ceremony sounds so interesting! It is so cool that they are used for a variety of different occasions. I think the idea that when a Navajo baby laughs, it has become fully human and therefore a lighting party is held is so cute. I also think it is interesting that sweets are given to new born babies to represent their innocence. I loved this post good job!
