The Greek diet is typically described as Mediterranean. There are three ingredients that are most often used; olive oil, bread and wine. The other most commonly used ingredients are fish, yogurt, cheese, and fresh vegetables. Greek food can have many positive health benefits. It has been proven that it can reduce the risk of developing heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and many more. A study has shown that Greek’s tend to live longer because of the food that they consume. I believe that the United States is starting to shift a little bit in its diet choices. This is because they are opening more Greek restaurants. I also believe this because Greek food is becoming more popular among people. I personally eat and enjoy different types of Greek food. The grocery stores nowadays have a good amount of different kinds of Greek yogurts. My favorite Greek food would have to be the yogurt. I think America is seeing that something can be healthy and still taste amazing. The Greek elders that are still eating the traditionally prepared food remain an important part of their lives. I believe in the book, “Like Water for Chocolate” food is shown to us readers that traditions do not have to die and they can help you stay connected to where you come from. The book portrays health as a huge aspect in their lives. It shows how if you do not put your all into what you have, your soul will start to die out. The Greeks believe it is important to their sense of self and cultural identity.
