Two of the most popular holidays in the South are Christmas and Thanksgiving. The South is known for its amazing food so it makes sense that most Southern families would gather around the table for Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts. Although a Southern holiday consists of many different foods and recipes I have chosen three popular recipes to share. During the holiday season there are a few go-to dishes that are made quite frequently in the South. Glazed sweet potatoes have always been very popular in the South. North Carolina, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Mississippi are among the top 10 states in growing sweet potatoes. Glazed sweet potatoes are typically served at Thanksgiving or Christmas. Southerners love their greens, most specifically spinach and green beans. Browned butter green beans with bacon and pecan bits are a crowd pleaser in many Southern states. With the mix of bacon, pecan and butter, this dish has the perfect amount of sweet and savory flavor. (Recipe: http://www.deepsouthdish.com/2012/12/browned-butter-green-beans-with-bacon.html#axzz3XDzE9jg2). Although green beans are not specifically grown in the Southern parts of the United States, that doesn't stop them from consuming large quantities of these delicious green beans.

Dessert in the South is a wide variety ranging from Georgia peach ice cream, Mississippi mud cake, banana pudding meringue, apple stack cake, Southern peach cobbler, pound cake, and sweet potato pie, one of the most popular desserts is pecan pie. Among the top pecan growing states in the United States are Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, and Alabama. With many Southern states growing pecans, the accessibility to use and cook with pecans grows largely. 1. I want to go to the south for Christmas and Thanksgiving! I love sweet potatoes, and I agree that the south makes that dish quite often. I really like how you discussed a variety of foods that southerners typically eat on these holidays. Southerners have a wide range of dishes they make.
