Bread can come in many different shapes and sizes, but one type is very important in traditional cooking in France. This would be the baguette. The baguette has been around France for years, and it is used in so many recipes! France is known for eating very heavy meals, so the baguette really tops it off if you want to gain ten pounds in just one seating. Obviously, bread isn’t healthy since it is a carbohydrate, but it is extremely affordable in France. Almost everyone buys a baguette because it is only one dollar, which makes it very popular. You can create almost any type of dish with a baguette. For lunch, people make baguette sandwiches by adding some meat and cheese with the bread. Then, there is also a very popular soup called Soupe a l’Oignon Gratinee (French Onion soup) that many people stir up. You can also jazz up your diet by making a baguette pizza! Or, you can just make the classic garlic bread. France is mostly countryside, so getting wheat in this land is very easy. Bakeries are all over France and tend to make baguettes fresh every day. Although France has a range of foods, from cheese to duck to fish, I believe that the bread is the most popular. They can create almost anything by baking the baguette. The baguette and other types of bread are almost always included during breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which is why it is always used in traditional cooking.

  1. I love that you chose to research the baguette! I always get baguettes at Panera with my soup, but I guess I will have to go to France to get an authentic baguette. I liked that you gave examples of how you could use this particular food and how it is so popular in the French culture.
