More than just wurst

I chose to focus on Germany because despite being German I
have never gotten the chance to learn very much about the country or culture.
However, the little I do know about the culture has been very appealing to me. I
have always loved bratwurst and going to the Chistkindlmarket during the
holiday season and learning more about it is such a great opportunity. With
Berlin as its capital and being fully surrounded by nine other countries it is
truly a beautiful place in the middle of Europe stocked full of history. Along
with it’s past the country is also known for some of it’s holidays and
celebrations that brighten every corner of the country with decorations and
famous traditions that are even carried out over here. When people think about
the food one of the first things that comes to mind is the abundance of meats
and breads. Meat is such a huge part of the daily German diet that the word
wurst refers to all types of sausage, but even with that general name the
cuisine is surprisingly diverse. Because
Germany is the fifth largest country in Europe, at one time it was made up of
many smaller sections such as free cities and other kingdoms. Therefor
traditional foods range and often differ regionally. Although there are many
differences some daily traditions stay the same. Much like other European
countries Germans partake in a form of afternoon snack called Kaffee which
consists of drinking coffee and eating cakes. However unlike the US the biggest
meal of the day is Mittagessen or lunch as we would call it.
