When it comes to cooking in Greek they use many different types of food in their diet. But the most popular types of food the Greeks use in their meals which are grains and olives. Greeks also rely on fish and seafood.  When it comes to harvesting these foods the Greeks find it very difficult due to the limited amount of good soil and the climate. When grain crops such as wheat and bread are planted in October they do not get harvested until April or May. One of Greeks traditional cooking ingredient is olives. The olive originated in the city of Athens from the Olive tree.  To the Greeks the olive tree symbolizes peace and prosperity as well as resurrection and hope.  The Greeks have many different types of olives such as the tinned olives, green olives, black olives, blond olives, kalamooon olives, halkidikis olvies and savory olives. Each type of olives is use for different types of food preparation within meals.  All of the different olives are harvest at different times of the year/season. Most of the olives are made within their main meals for dinner and lunch.  After pulling the olives from the trees and using the left over’s many olives are then turned to olive oil which is the number one hit in Greek.  They have different types of oil such as Extra Virgin olive, virgin olive oil and just normal olive oil. Their tradition with the oil is to share bread with cheese and the oil.
