Farming in Poland

Farming is big business in Poland.  About 60 percent of Poland's land area is used for farming, and it plays a very large role in Poland's economy.  Farms in Poland produce large quantities of food both for domestic use and for exporting.  The largest yields come from Winter Cereals- Wheat, Rye, Barley and Oats.  Other major crops include Potatoes and Apples- Poland is the 10th and 4th largest producer in the world respectively.  Poland has a cooler climate with plenty of precipitation, which is ideal for these types of plants.

As you can see from these maps of worldwide Wheat and Potato production, Poland is located in an area with high production levels.
Naturally these crops are featured heavily in Polish cuisine.  Various types of breads and dumplings are very popular in Poland, and one of the most popular traditional foods is potato pancakes.
