Two major holidays in Jamaica include Bob Marley's birthday and Christmas. During February 6th - 10th music festivals are held in St. Anne in order to remember Bob Marley's life. There is all sorts of things ranging from live meal preparation to concerts all around the place. Even if your unable to attend the annual event it is usually streamed so that everyone can take part! Families crowd St. Anne every year to hear some of the spectacular music played and to meet up with people from around the world. Christmas is so important in Jamaica that before Christmas an event called The Grand Market takes place. The Grand Market is an event which lowers sales on a lot of festive items and foods so you can stock up for the big day ahead. The Christmas season in Jamaica is probably one of the most social times of the year. Families go around the town together, go to church, go shopping and give gifts to one another all before the big Christmas dinner. Christmas dinners usually consist of chicken, oxtail, curry, goat, roast ham, gungo peas, pork and roast beef. Gungo peas are a rare specialty because of the fact they usually ripen in December. For desert they eat cakes made of fruits soaked in rum and they drink sorrel which is made from cinnamon, dried sorrel, sugar, rum and over vegetables. Christmas is that special time of year around Jamaica that you just don't want to miss. You also don't wanna miss the desert which is said to be absolutely amazing!

This is really cool! I didn't know that Jamaicans did so much during the winter holidays. It sounds like a really festive time of year when everyone comes home to be with their families.
