One main feast that the Germans celebrate is Oktoberfest. It starts on a Saturday in September and lasts about 16-18 days which normally lands on the first weekend of October. It celebrates all of Germany’s beer and great food. It it held annually in Munich, Germany. Although many people believe that Oktoberfest is just about beer, it in fact also has to do with food, too. One of the main foods that Oktoberfest focuses on is sausage. Sausage is served in many of the dishes, including a popular one, which is sausage and sauerkraut. Another popular dish is schnitzel which is a boneless meat that is thinned out and coated with flour, eggs, and bread crumbs and then fried. Something that is added to a lot of meals is spaetzle. Spaetzle is an egg noodle or dumping which is found in Germany but also Hungary and Austria. Germany also has a lot of popular desserts. They include Black Forest Cake, which is several layers of chocolate cake with berries layered in between them, bienenstich, which is yeast dough topped with almonds and filled with vanilla custard, and a family favorite, Zwetschgenkuchen, which is a thi cake made from yeast dough topped with plums. A famous drink that is very well known for being at Oktoberfest is Gluhwein which is a red wine put on the stove mixed with sugar, a cinnamon stick, whole cloves, and orange and is served warm. Oktoberfest started October 12, 1810 and has become so prominent in the German culture and has even come to America and is celebrated in many different cities.

Oktoberfest seems like a really cool place to be at! All of those people in Germany and in cities around the world celebrating the start of October sounds like a fun event. With all those interesting foods and drinks there no way I'm gonna miss it this year!
